AWS announces the general availability of Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) C7gd, M7gd, and R7gd metal instances with up to 3.8 TB of local NVMe-based SSD block-level storage. They have up to 45% improved real-time NVMe storage performance than comparable Graviton2-based instances. These instances are built on the AWS Nitro System andENnbsp;are great fit for applications that need access to high-speed, low latency local storage, including those that need temporary storage of data for scratch space, temporary files, and caches. C7gd instances are ideal for high performance computing (HPC), and ad serving. M7gd instances are ideal for general purpose workloads such as application servers, and microservices. R7gd instances are ideal for memory-intensive workloads such as open-source databases, and real-time big data analytics.
Bare metal instances allow EC2 customers to run applications that benefit from deep performance analysis tools, specialized workloads that require direct access to bare metal infrastructure, legacy workloads not supported in virtual environments, and licensing-restricted business critical applications.
These metal instances are available in the following AWS Regions:ENnbsp;US East (N. Virginia, Ohio), US West (Oregon, N. California), Europe (Ireland, Frankfurt, Stockholm, Spain), and Asia Pacific (Mumbai, Tokyo, Sydney, Singapore). M7gd are also available in Europe (Paris). They can be purchased as Savings Plans, Reserved, On-Demand, and Spot instances.
