Amazon CloudWatch announces support for the OpenTelemetry Protocol (OTLP) 1.0.0 specification as a new output format in CloudWatch Metric Streams. With Metric Streams, you can create a continuous, near real-time stream of metrics to a destination of your choice.
You can use Metric Streams to send metrics to your data lake on Amazon Web Services (AWS), such as Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3), or to other destinations including AWS Partner solutions. Now customers can output using OTLP 1.0.0 specification, in addition to the existing output formats of JSON and OTLP 0.7.0 in Metric Streams.
To get started with Metric Streams click on the Streams option from the left menu of the CloudWatch console, under the Metrics menu. When configuring a Metric Stream, you have an option to select the output format, which now includes OTLP 1.0.0. You can set up a stream of metrics to be delivered to S3 with a few clicks. Alternatively, you can use the CloudWatch API, AWS SDK, AWS CLI, or AWS CloudFormation to provision and configure Metric Streams.
Metric Streams support for OTLP 1.0.0 is now available in all commercial AWS Regions, including the Amazon Web Services China (Beijing) Region, operated by Sinnet, and the Amazon Web Services China (Ningxia) Region, operated by NWCD.
